You have seen them before — in the movies and at the gate: The iconic aluminum and grooved suitcases at the hand of busy frequent travelers and business men in the most frantic airport hubs around the world: RIMOWA is the classic choice for a nice, sturdy, robust and nice looking piece of carry-on luggage.
So naturally, I had to upgrade to the RIMOWA as my career as a globetrotting onboard courier literally took off.
When I travel, I travel light: Never, EVER having checked in luggage both to cut time at the destination airport but also to eliminate the risk of losing my checked in baggage. If the shipment I bring is suitable for carry-on and the airline at the gate demands that I check in one of my pieces it’s always my personal baggage that gets kicked to storage onboard and the time critical shipment that gets in the cabin.
But usually I am able to bring both the OBC package onboard in the cabin along with my personal stuff.
I have chosen as my trusty travel companion the RIMOWA Topas Pilot Business Carry-On 34L Multiwheel which I researched and lusted for about a year. So this summer I got it just as the particular model was discontinued by RIMOWA. I got mine from Copenhagen Luggage and I highly recommend you check out their store in Copenhagen just outside Copenhagen Central Station if you’re ever in the Danish capital.
I wanted the top loader Pilot version in the smaller 34 liter version as this is a more acceptable size for the overhead compartment inside the cabin of the aircraft than the big brother 37 liter version. The top loader is faster and easier to open and get to but the down side is that I have to put the telescopic arm all the way down in order for the top lid to open. On the other hand, I usually travel with the TUMI Expandable Organiser Laptop Brief Alpha 2 Pewter under my legs with all possible things I might need access to during the flight (more on this in another post).
It’s important to pack light and easily acceccs your stuff in the RIMOWA. That’s why I only have five items in the main compartment:
A travel bag in the bag containing my clothes
A bag containing my drone and accessories
A bag containing my chargers and cables
A bag contains toiletries and
A folded up Samsonite bag (for the time critical shipment if it fits inside the bag
